Yellow Moong Dal (Raw)
0.25 cup (50g)
Mustard seeds
0.25 tsp (1.25g)
Cumin seeds
0.5 tsp (2.5g)
Common salt
0.5 tsp (2.5g)
Olive Oil
1 tsp (5g)
Baking Soda
0.25 tsp (1.25g)
Plain Water
2 small cup (400g)
Grated Ginger
1 tsp (3g)
Chopped Green Chilli
1 tsp (5g)
Fresh Coriander Leaves (chopped)
1 tbsp (5g)
Fenugreek seeds
0.5 tsp (2.5g)
Rice, raw, milled
1 cup (100g)
Instructions
Preparation
-Rinse the rice, moong dal, and fenugreek seeds separately in water. Soak them in enough water for at least 6 hours or overnight.
Cooking Steps
Drain the water and grind the dal to a smooth batter using a mixer grinder. Add a little water if needed.
Transfer the batter to a bowl and add salt. Mix well.
Grease the idli plates with oil.
Add baking soda to the batter and mix well. The batter will become frothy.
Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
Add grated ginger and chopped green chili and fry for a few seconds.
Add this tempering to the batter and mix well.
Add chopped coriander leaves to the batter and mix well.
Pour the batter into the idli plates and steam for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove the idli plates from the steamer and let them cool for a few minutes.
Remove the idlis from the plates using a spoon and serve hot.
