Cooking Steps
Step 1: To begin making the Vegetarian Sago Dumpling Recipe, first soak sago/tapioca pearls in 1/2 cup of hot water till the sago turns translucent
Step 2: Remember not to over-soak the pearls, else, the dough turns soggy
Step 3: Mince garlic, cilantro leaves
Step 4: You can take a couple of cilantro roots as well
Step 5: Add finely chopped onion and mix together
Step 6: Put a Kadai/wok on medium flame and heat oil
Step 7: Add the minced mixture, saute until the onion turn translucent and soft
Step 8: Once the onions are soft, add finely chopped cabbage, carrot and beans
Step 9: Stir well to combine
Step 10: Next add soy sauce and pepper powder
Step 11: Saute till all the ingredients are combined well
Step 12: Turn off the heat
Step 13: Keep aside and let the filling cool down completely
Step 14: Meanwhile, take all the soaked sago in a bowl after draining water, wet you hands thoroughly, knead for 2 - 3 minutes until very pliable
Step 15: Wet your hands and take a small amount of dough, flatten and make a disc shape of around 6 cm
Step 16: Place 1 teaspoon of the vegetable filling in the center, then close the flattened disc carefully and shape into a round ball
Step 17: Keep the ball on a lightly greased plate
Step 18: Repeat the process with the remaining dough and the filling
Step 19: Now ready the steamer for cooking these balls
Step 20: Before placing the balls in the steamer, brush the steamer plate with oil
Step 21: Steam them for 15 minutes or till the sago becomes soft and transparent
Step 22: The time required for steaming might vary upon the thickness of the wrapping
Step 23: Meanwhile, prepare the garlic oil by heating oil in a tadka pan and add crushed garlic to it
Step 24: Saute the garlic until brown and turn off the heat
Step 25: Remove the garlic from the oil
Step 26: The garlic oil is ready
Step 27: Remove the Vegetarian Sago Dumpling from the steamer once the tapioca covering is soft and translucent by dipping a spoon into the oil in order to prevent the dumplings from sticking to the spoon
Step 28: Brush each dumpling with garlic oil
Step 29: Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot
