Cooking Steps
Step 1: To prepare Traditional Steamed Modak Recipe (Ukadiche Modak With Rice flour), begin with making the stuffing for modak
Step 2: Combine coconut, ghee and jaggery in a Non-stick pan
Step 3: Cook on medium heat for about 3 to 4 minutes
Step 4: Make sure that you do not overcook the mixture
Step 5: Add the roasted poppy seeds, grounded cardamom, nutmeg powder and other remaining filling ingredients
Step 6: Mix well and keep aside
Step 7: In the same pan, heat the water along with ghee and pinch of salt
Step 8: Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and add the rice flour in a steady flow, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming
Step 9: Now cook this mixture on very low heat for about 2 to 3 minutes
Step 10: Now switch off the flame and cover this pan with lid for 4 to 5 minutes
Step 11: Now take this dough in a big bowl or plate
Step 12: Allow to cool till the temperature you can handle to knead
Step 13: Dip you palm in cool water and knead the hot dough very well
Step 14: If dough looks hard or dry, then add a little warm water and continue to knead dough till completely smooth and pliable dough is made
Step 15: Rest the dough covered with a damp cloth
Step 16: Assembling & Steaming Ukadiche ModaksTake a small ball of dough and roll thinly between hands, stretching the dough with fingers to a disk of about 3-4 inches diameter
Step 17: Keep the dough disk on you palm and add the sweet Ukadiche Modak filling in the center
Step 18: Pinch the edges of the circular dough disk to make protruded edges
Step 19: Bring together all the pinched folds in the center
Step 20: Make all traditional Ukadiche Modaks this way and keep aside
Step 21: Cover with a cotton napkin
Step 22: Use a Steamer to steam the modaks for 10-15 minutes or till done
Step 23: Drizzle a few drops of ghee on Ukadiche Modaks and serve Traditional Steamed Modak Recipe alongside Poor and Aloo Methi Masala Recipe or Vatana Usal Recipe
