Cooking Steps
Step 1: To begin making the Pacha Payir Kulambu recipe, wash the green gram and soak in water for 2 hours
Step 2: Once done, add it to pressure cooker along with required water
Step 3: Pressure cook for 5-6 whistles
Step 4: Once the pressure seizes, open the lid, slightly mash the green gram with ladle
Step 5: Mashing it is optional
Step 6: Heat a heavy bottomed pan with oil on a medium flame
Step 7: Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds
Step 8: Once it splutters, add asafoetida, slitted green chilli and red chilli
Step 9: Add chopped onion and saute until translucent
Step 10: Add chopped tomatoes and cook until mushy
Step 11: Once the tomatoes are mushy, add cooked green gram along with required water for the gravy
Step 12: Add salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and sambar powder to it
Step 13: Mix well, cover the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes on a low flame
Step 14: Once everything is combined well turn off the flame and garnish the kulambu with coriander leaves
Step 15: Serve Pacha Payir Kulambu along with Beetroot Thoran and Steamed Rice for a weekday meal
