Fenugreek leaves (Methi)
0.5 cup, chopped (100g)
Chopped Onion

Chopped Tomato

0.25 tsp (1.25g)
Red chilli Powder
0.5 tsp (2.5g)
Garam Masala

Asafoetida
1 pinch (0.2g)
Chopped Green Chilli

Cumin seeds

Preparation
Soaking Moong Dal: Soak the moong dal in water for 20–30 minutes for quicker cooking. Drain before using.
Cooking Steps
Heat oil in a pan on medium heat.
Add cumin seeds (jeera) and let them splutter.
Add a pinch of hing (asafoetida), chopped garlic and green chili. Stir for a few seconds.
Add finely chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
Add chopped tomato and cook for few mins.
Add turmeric powder, garam masala, and red chili powder. Mix well.
Cook the masala on low heat until the tomato turn soft and mushy.
Add soaked and drained moong dal. Stir and mix well.
Add ½ cup of water to start, cover the pan, and cook until the moong dal becomes soft and thoroughly cooked. Add more water if required to adjust consistency.
Add chopped methi leaves, mix, cover, and cook for another 5–7 minutes until the methi softens and blends well with the dal.
Adjust salt and water to achieve the desired taste and consistency.
Serve warm.
