Cooking Steps
In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, carom seeds, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
Pour 2 tsp of oil into the dry mixture and rub it with your fingers to create a crumbly texture.
Knead the mixture into a firm dough. It should not be too soft; a slightly stiff dough works best for pooris.
Cover and let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes.
After resting, divide the dough into small balls.
Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a small circular disc (approximately 4-5 inches in diameter). Keep them slightly thick to avoid tearing while frying.
Heat oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat.
Slide one poori into the hot oil. Press gently with a slotted spoon to help it puff up. Fry until golden brown on both sides.
Remove the poori and place it on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Repeat for all pooris.
