Cooking Steps
Step 1: To begin with Huli Tovve, wash and soak the toor dal till you prepare your vegetables
Step 2: Wash and cut the vegetables
Step 3: Pressure cook Toor dal, mixed vegetables and peanuts till they the cooker releases 3-4 whistles
Step 4: The next step is to prepare the paste
Step 5: Dry roast urad dal, chana dal, cinnamon and red chilli separately till they turn light gold
Step 6: Add coconut to this and grind all of this into a smooth paste
Step 7: Remove the lid after the cooker cools down
Step 8: Add the ground paste to this and 2 cups of water, salt and jaggery and boil
Step 9: Boil till the hulitovve thickens on high flame
Step 10: For tempering, heat the oil in a tadka pan
Step 11: Add mustard seeds and let it crackle
Step 12: Add red chilly and curry leaves
Step 13: Once they crisp up, add it to the hulitovve
Step 14: Serve Huli Tovve with hot steamed rice and Elai Vadam
