Cooking Steps
Step 1: To begin making the Goan Masoorchi Usali recipe, wash and soak masoor for 2 to 3 hours
Step 2: After soaking drain, the water
Step 3: Add the masoor to a pressure cooker along with 2 cups water and pressure cook it for 2 whistles
Step 4: Wait for the pressure from the cooker to be released
Step 5: Heat a kadai/wok, add oil
Step 6: After oil gets heated, add mustard seeds and let it flutter
Step 7: Now add cumin seeds and let it crackle
Step 8: Add curry leaves, asafetida and slit green chili and stir
Step 9: Now add chopped onion and fry till onion turns pinkish
Step 10: Add chopped tomato and let it cook till tomato turns soft and mushy
Step 11: Now add 1/4 teaspoon salt and mix well
Step 12: Add turmeric powder and mix
Step 13: Now add pressure cooked masoor and mix well
Step 14: Add grated coconut and again mix
Step 15: Let this cook for 5 minutes on low flame
Step 16: If needed add salt
Step 17: Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
Step 18: Serve Goan Masoorchi Usali along with Phulkas and Steamed rice for a weekday Goan meal
