Cooking Steps
Step 1: To begin making the Aval Payasam, first heat a teaspoon of ghee in a small pan and roast the cashew nuts on low heat until crisp and lightly golden
Step 2: Keep this aside
Step 3: Wash the beaten rice well with water
Step 4: Drain water and keep aside
Step 5: Boil milk in a heavy bottomed sauce pan and add the washed aval to the milk
Step 6: Turn the heat to low and simmer the milk mixture until it thickens and the aval is cooked
Step 7: This will take a good 15 to 20 minutes
Step 8: At this point add in the sugar, cardamom powder, cinnamon and give a mixture a stir and simmer until the sugar dissolves
Step 9: Turn off the heat and garnish with cashew nuts
Step 10: Serve hot or cold
Step 11: Serve the Aval Payasam Recipe as a Dessert
