Instructions
Cooking Steps
In a pressure cooker, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add chopped onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they turn translucent.
Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Sauté for another 1-2 minutes until the raw smell goes away.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes until they soften and turn mushy.
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Stir well.
Add the red lentils and water. Mix well and close the pressure cooker.
Cook on high heat for 2-3 whistles. Reduce heat and let the pressure release naturally.
Open the pressure cooker and stir the dal. If the dal is too thick, add some water to adjust the consistency.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
