Cooking Steps
Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter, which should take about 30 seconds.
Add the grated ginger, green chilies, salt and curry leaves to the pan. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until they become fragrant.
If using asafetida (Hing), add a pinch at this stage for additional flavor.
Add the cooked/boiled rice to the pan and stir well to combine it with the spices.
Pour in water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow it to cook for 5-7 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
Once the soup is heated through and seasoned to your liking, remove it from the heat.
Squeeze the juice of lemon into the soup. Adjust the amount of lemon juice according to your taste preferences for sourness.
Serve hot.
